United States Congressman Randy Neugebauer delivers a speech on the House floor commending the Red Raider Baseball program.
WASHINGTON D.C. – The Texas Tech baseball team was recognized by United States Congressman Randy Neugebauer on Wednesday afternoon, as he delivered a speech to the House of Representatives in Washington D.C. commending the program on last year's accomplishments.
Â
Congressman Neugebauer represents the 19th Congressional District, which stretches across 29 counties in West Texas and the Big Country. Neugebauer was raised in Lubbock, graduating from Coronado High School and later from Texas Tech with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting. He has served in the House of Representatives for seven terms, since a special election in 2003.
"Our baseball program and Texas Tech University is extremely grateful for Congressman Neugebauer's comments," head coach Tim Tadlock said. We are honored to be recognized for the effort and dedication our student-athletes and staff put in to making 2016 a memorable season. We wouldn't be able to accomplish what we have without the tremendous leadership from Chancellor Duncan, President Schovanec and our athletics director Kirby Hocutt, and also want to thank the entire Red Raider family for their unwavering support of Texas Tech baseball."

Below is the speech Neugebauer delivered to the House floor:
Â
"Mr. Speaker, I rise to recognize the 2016 Texas Tech Red Raider baseball team. The Red Raiders, led by Big 12 coach of the year, Tim Tadlock, capped off a tremendous season in which they won the Big 12 title and advanced to the College World Series for the second time in the past three years. This trip, they earned the program's first-ever win in Omaha.
Â
This team's hard work was evident to me as I watched their impressive run. I want to highlight the contributions of the senior class, a group of student-athletes who led Tech to a Big 12 championship, two trips to the College World Series and to 149 wins since 2013. Several of these players have moved on to professional baseball while we wish all of them the best in their future endeavors.
Â
This team ended the year ranked No. 4 nationally, Tech's highest in school history. But more than anything else, I am proud of the way these young men carried themselves in victory and defeat. Under the guidance of Coach Tadlock and his staff, next year's team should be well-positioned to carry on Tech's recent baseball success.Â
Â
Red Raider nation and I thank you for the way you represented our University."
Â
Texas Tech's second run to the College World Series in the last three years earned the Red Raiders a No. 4 national ranking to end the year, which was the highest ranking in school history. Tech finished the season with a 47-20 overall record, including its first ever CWS win with a 3-2 victory over top-seeded Florida.
Â
Before producing a trip to Omaha, the Red Raiders claimed their first Big 12 regular-season title since 1997 after tallying an impressive 19-5 mark against conference foes. Tech's 47 wins overall marked its third-most in school history, the most since 1996, and was the second 40-win season in the last three years. The previous 40-win season also resulted in a trip to Omaha for the College World Series and was the first in program history.
