LUBBOCK, Texas - Former Texas Tech defensive lineman Branden Jackson became the latest Red Raider to join the Oakland Raiders organization Monday as he signed a free-agent deal with the franchise.
Jackson is the sixth Red Raider from Texas Tech's 2015 senior class to find his way onto an NFL roster this spring as he joins the likes of Micah Awe (Buccaneers), Le'Raven Clark (Lions), Jakeem Grant (Dolphins), Pete Robertson (Seahawks) and DeAndre Washington (Raiders).
Jackson signed with the Raiders after participating on a tryout basis at Oakland's rookie mini-camp this past weekend. The Raiders signed only five of roughly 20 tryout players who participated in the rookie mini-camp.
The Oakland roster now features three former Red Raiders as Jackson joins his former teammate in Washington, a fifth-round draft pick by the Raiders in April, as well as two-time Biletnikoff Award recipient Michael Crabtree, who recorded one of his best professional seasons after signing with the Raiders prior to the 2015 season.
Jackson closed his four-year career as a Red Raider with 31 tackles this past season, including 4.5 that went for a loss. He totaled 138 tackles, 24 of which that went for a loss, as well as 11 sacks over his career where he started in 35 games.
Jackson was one of five captains elected for the 2015 season where the Red Raiders finished 7-6 overall with road victories over both Arkansas and Texas. Tech concluded the season at the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl, the third bowl appearance for the Red Raiders in Jackson's career.
