No. 21 Texas Tech Blows Past UTSA 4-0

Lubbock, Texas - The 21st ranked Red Raiders (3-1-0) topped UTSA (0-4-0) 4-0 at the John Walker Soccer Complex Friday night to extend their win streak to three games.
"It was great to get a lot of players minutes," said head coach Tom Stone. "They took it very seriously. They weren't just out there trying to kill the game, they were out there showing their stuff. We finished the game with nine first year players on the field. That is a great look into the future."
Texas Tech came out with an incredible level of intensity and focus scoring their first goal of the match just two minutes into the first half as senior Ashley Casey recorded her first goal of the 2015 season after collecting an Ali Murphy corner.
The Red Raider first half onslaught would not end there, however, as senior forward Caity Heap would add to the Red Raider lead in the 17th minute while assisting Briana Rohmer in her first goal of the season in the 23rd minute. Rohmer's goal to put the Red Raiders up 3-0 was her first since Aug. 31, 2014 and will undoubtedly prove that she is fully back from a season ending knee injury that sidelined her for much of the 2014 season.
"I think we worked well together in playing our game," added Rohmer. "Controlling the game will allow you to score goals. We have a big game here on Sunday so it helps when we are playing well and scoring early so that we can get more people on the field and save our legs for Sunday."
Texas Tech retuned to play in the second half with the same intensity as they started the match. Just eight minutes is all it took for freshman Lauren Dabner to connect with Makenzie Kahan and put the Red Raiders up 4-0.
With the win, the Red Raiders remain undefeated against the Road Runners and bring the overall series record to 5-0-0 against UTSA. In those five meetings Texas Tech has recorded four shutouts and outscored the Road Runners 18-1.
The Red Raiders will be back in action at 7:00 p.m. Sunday night as they host the Minnesota Golden Gophers who finished last season ranked No. 52 in the NCAA RPI poll. Texas Tech last met Minnesota at the John Walker Complex in the first round of the 2013 NCAA tournament where they recorded a 2-0 victory.
