Texas Tech Opens Fall Slate With First Team Practice

Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock held his first team practice of the 2015-16 academic year on Sunday. The Red Raiders return 26 letterwinners, including eight seniors, for Tadlock's fourth season leading his alma mater.

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech baseball program opened its fall season Sunday afternoon as the Red Raiders held their first team practice of the 2015-16 academic year inside Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
The Red Raiders, who are coming off their second straight 30-win season under fourth-year head coach Tim Tadlock, return a veteran squad that brings back 26 letterwinners, including eight seniors.
Eric Gutierrez, a 2015 All-Big 12 first team honoree, highlights Texas Tech's eight-member senior class.
Raley was among the top hitters in the Big 12 a year ago as his .350 batting average ranked fourth in the league. He also connected on three home runs and drove in 21 runs in his first season as a Red Raider.
Smith ranked among the top power hitters in the conference as he powered 10 home runs to go along with a .291 average and 32 RBI. His 10 home runs ranked second among Big 12 players.
Neslony, meanwhile, compiled a .286 clip as a junior while recording six home runs and 35 RBI. His 17 doubles were tied for third in the conference while his 103 total bases finished 10th overall.
In addition to the group of returners, Texas Tech also inherits another strong recruiting class that several publications have ranked among the best in the nation.
Texas Tech will conclude its fall schedule with the annual Red & Black Series. A full series schedule will be announced at a later date.
