Smith and the Pioneer League All-Stars will face the Northwest League All-Stars in the inaugural game between the two leagues on Aug. 4 at Avista Stadium in Spokane, Washington.
Smith, who was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 36th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft this past June, is a perfect 5-0 in seven appearances at the Class A level. He has allowed just five earned runs over his 28.0 complete innings, compiling a 1.61 earned-run average during that span.
Smith enters Monday night's game at Helena tied for the Pioneer League lead with five wins. In addition, he is also among the league's most consistent pitchers with 36 strikeouts to just one walk issued, the fewest among pitchers with at least 20 innings pitched.
The Diamondbacks were previously the only major league organization who had yet to draft a Red Raider until selecting Smith with the first pick of the 36th round this past June.
Smith, a native of Seabrook, Texas, earned All-Big 12 first team honors in 2015 after going 6-5 overall with a 2.83 ERA as Texas Tech's primary Saturday starter. He was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week three times during his senior season alone, the most ever by a Red Raider hurler.
In his two seasons wearing scarlet and black, Smith posted a 14-8 overall record to go along with a 2.81 ERA in 39 appearances after transferring from New Mexico Junior College prior to the 2014 season. Opponents hit just .227 off Smith, who totaled 156.2 innings, 89.0 of which that came this past season.
The southpaw recorded several of the most memorable pitching performances in school history during his two seasons, including a complete-game shutout of Miami during the 2014 NCAA Coral Gables Regional. The 4-0 shutout of the host Hurricanes pushed the Red Raiders past the NCAA Regional round for the first time in program history and eventually on to the College World Series.
Smith was one of six Red Raiders selected in the draft, five of which that were pitchers. It marked the second time in program history where five Tech pitchers had been chosen by major league organizations.
