Texas Tech Opens Big 12 Championship Wednesday Facing Texas

Texas Tech senior LHP Cameron Smith will start the tournament opener against the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.

Texas Tech (30-22) makes its 15th appearance at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship May 20-24 as the tournament moves to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the first time with action this week at ONEOK Field - Double-A home of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Red Raiders tied for third place in the league and are the No. 4 seed in the tournament for the second straight season - also for the second straight year will face off with Texas (26-25) in the opening round while playing the first game of the tournament on Wednesday at 9 a.m. CT. This year's tournament features a pair of four-team brackets with a double-elimination format. Joining Tech and UT on its side of the bracket is regular season champion TCU (43-9) who faces No. 8 seed Baylor (21-30) at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The winners of Tech/UT and TCU/BU will play at 4 p.m. on Thursday while the losers will play an elimination game at 9 a.m. on Thursday. The other side of the bracket features No. 3 seed Oklahoma vs. No. 6 seed K-State while No. 2 seed Oklahoma State faces No. 7 seed West Virginia.
