No. 21 Texas Tech Suffers Midweek Series Sweep

Burleson posted his 48th career double (6th in school history) and notched his 49th career multi-hit game going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

LUBBOCK, Texas - Grand Canyon scored six runs in the final two innings to take the lead and pull away from No. 21 Texas Tech while sweeping the two-game midweek series with a 10-5 victory on Wednesday afternoon in front of 3,113 fans at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
Texas Tech (27-19) closed its home schedule with a 20-10 record while tallying a 7-7 midweek record on the season. Grand Canyon improves to 26-19 overall while posting 13 base hits with five extra-base hits in the game.
Junior right-handed reliever Johnathon Tripp (1-1) took the loss allowing two runs (1 ER) on four hits with a strikeout in four innings.
Grand Canyon reliever Mick Vorhof (4-0) picked up the win as the Antelopes third pitcher of the game going two innings allowing two runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout. GCU reliever Cameron Brendel pitched the final two innings without allowing a run to earn his second save of the season.
The Red Raiders scored the first run of the game in the opening inning with third baseman Tanner Gardner reaching on a double to right-center field and scoring a batter later when sophomore outfielder Stephen Smith tripled down the right-field line for the RBI.
GCU scored the game's next four runs to take a 4-1 lead, including a three-run fourth inning that was started by a solo homer by second baseman Chad De Le Guerra.
The Red Raiders chipped away with two runs in the fourth inning - both unearned - while senior second baseman Bryant Burleson drove in a run with an RBI double and later scored after stealing third base and coming home on a throwing error by Antelopes catcher Josh Meyer.
Tech regained the lead in the sixth when sophomore designated hitter Anthony Lyons doubled and scored on sophomore outfielder Hunter Hargrove's RBI triple off the left-field wall. Hargrove later scored on a wild pitch to give Tech a 5-4 lead.
Grand Canyon exploded for four runs in the eighth and ninth innings with six hits - two doubles - and a pair of walks off four Tech relievers.
Smith finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and Burleson went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI while his double marked the 48th of his career which moved him into a tie for sixth place all-time in school history.
Nine Antelopes recorded base hits while four players posted multi-hit games.
Texas Tech will finish the regular season with a six-game road trip, beginning this weekend with a three-game Big 12 series at Texas (23-22), May 1-3, while all three games will be televised on ESPN's Longhorn Network with Kevin Dunn, Greg Swindell and Keith Moreland calling the action.
