FORT WORTH, Texas -- It was not without a valiant effort, but No. 21 Texas Tech came up just short against No. 10 TCU, 4-2, on Thursday night at the Bayard Friedman Tennis Center.
"I am so proud of this team," said Texas Tech head coach Tim Siegel. "We had incredible fight to battle back from a 3-0 deficit."
TCU opened the match with quick wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the early point.
The Horned Frogs then added wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles and suddenly lead 3-0. No. 113 Jolan Cailleau cut the lead to 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Arnau Dachs. It was his team-best 23rd win of the season.
Junior Felipe Soares, who is ranked No. 40, then upset TCU's No. 36 Nick Chappell, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4), and TCU's leads was now 3-2.
"We were down, 3-2, and Hugo (Dojas) had set point in the second set tiebreaker, while Alex (Sendegeya) was up 5-3 in the third," added Siegel. "We were basically one point away from being tied 3-3 with the deciding match going to the third. "I am proud of our team. It was a great college tennis match."
Texas Tech travels to Austin to face No. 9 Texas at the Caswell Tennis Center on Saturday at 3 p.m. The match will air live on the Longhorn Network.
