LUBBOCK, Texas -- Three Texas Tech football players - senior offensive lineman Le'Raven Clark, senior running back DeAndre Washington and senior wide receiver/kick returner Jakeem Grant - were named to the All-Big 12 Conference Football Team, league officials announced Wednesday morning.
Clark and Washington both were named to the All-Big 12 First Team, while Grant received All-Big 12 Second Team honors as both a wide receiver and kick returner.
Le'Raven Clark was named to the All-Big 12 teams for the third time in his career on Wednesday.
Washington led the Big 12 in both total rushing yards (1,455) and rushing yards per game (121.2). He became the first running back at Texas Tech since former Doak Walker Award winner Byron Hanspard in 1995 and 1996 to run for back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. On the year, he totaled 1,455 rushing yards, 14 touchdowns on 223 carries and boasted a 6.5 yards per rush average. He recorded seven 100-yard rushing performances including a career-best 248-yard day against Kansas State. He also caught 34 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns. Washington is currently ranked among the nation's top-20 in several statistical categories including all-purpose yards (No. 14, 146.6), yards per carry (No. 14), rushing touchdowns (No. 17), rushing yards (No. 12) and rushing yards per game (No. 13).
A multi-dimensional performer, Grant led the Big 12 and ranks No. 3 nationally in all-purpose yardage (180.6). He has the unique distinction of having thrown for a touchdown pass, returned a kickoff for touchdown, caught a TD pass and rushed for a touchdown. As a wide receiver, Grant caught 80 passes for 1,143 yards and seven touchdowns and surpassed Michael Crabtree as Texas Tech's career receiving yards recordholder (3,164). As a kick returner, he ran back two kickoff returns for touchdown (100-yarder vs. Oklahoma State and a 94-yarder vs. Sam Houston State) and set the school record for most career kick return touchdowns (four). The Biletnikoff and Paul Hornung Award candidate currently ranks among national statistical leaders in all-purpose yards (No. 3), combined kick returns (No. 7), kickoff returns for TD (No. 5), receiving yards (No. 16) and receiving yards per game (No. 15).
Texas Tech had eight other individuals who earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors including senior linebacker Micah Awe, freshman defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko, freshman placekicker Clayton Hatfield, freshman defensive back Jah'Shawn Johnson, senior center Jared Kaster, sophomore quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, senior defensive lineman Pete Robertson and sophomore running back Justin Stockton.
Texas Tech (7-5) will face No. 20 LSU (8-3) in the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at NRG Stadium in Houston. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. CT for a nationally televised broadcast on ESPN.
