Texas Tech will make its 37th all-time bowl appearance, a figure that ranks No. 17 nationally. Texas Tech will travel to a bowl game in Houston for the fifth time in program history and the first time since the 2012 Meinecke Car Care Bowl of Texas, which was also played at NRG Stadium. The Red Raiders claimed a 34-31 win that day over Minnesota on Dec. 29, 2012.
Texas Tech enters the game with a 7-5 overall record while LSU stands at 8-3 overall. Riding a two-game win streak, Texas Tech improved from a 4-8 record in 2014 to a 7-5 slate in 2015. Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, running back DeAndre Washington and receiver Jakeem Grant, Texas Tech will enter the contest ranked No. 2 nationally in three offensive statistical categories: scoring offense (46.6 ppg.), total offense (594.5 ypg.) and passing offense (389.7 ypg.). LSU's offense features running back Leonard Fournette, who leads NCAA Division I in rushing yards per game (158.3 ypg.), ranks No. 3 in rushing yards (1,741), No. 4 in all-purpose yards (177.3 ypg.) and No. 5 in rushing touchdowns (18).
Kickoff for the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl is set for 8 p.m. CT. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN. More information on the AdvoCare Texas Bowl is available at www.advocaretexasbowl.com.

- Texas Tech advances to a bowl game for the 37th time in its football history. The 37 bowl appearances rank as the nation's 17th most nationally and third-best among Big 12 Conference programs. Tech will advance to a bowl game for the 14th time in the last 16 years.
- Texas Tech is 14-21-1 all-time in its previous 36 bowl appearances. It currently has a four-game bowl win streak intact with consecutive victories over Michigan State (41-31 win, 2009 Alamo Bowl), Northwestern (45-38 win, 2010 TicketCity Bowl), Minnesota (34-31 win, 2012 Meinecke Texas Bowl) and Arizona State (37-23 win, 2013 Holiday Bowl).
- Texas Tech's four-game bowl win streak ranks as the longest current bowl win streak in the Big 12.
- Kliff Kingsbury has guided the Red Raiders to bowl games in two of his first three seasons as Texas Tech head coach. His first bowl appearance was in the 2013 Holiday Bowl, a 37-23 win over Arizona State in San Diego, Calif.
- Texas Tech is one of seven Big 12 schools to accept bowl game invitations (Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech, West Virginia and Kansas State).
- For the fifth time in program history, Texas Tech will play a bowl game in Houston. Texas Tech's other bowl games played in Houston include: the 1976 Bluebonnet Bowl, 2000 GalleryFurniture.com Bowl; 2003 Houston Bowl and 2012 Meinecke Car Care Bowl of Texas. The last time Tech played a bowl game in Houston was in 2012, the Meinecke Car Care Bowl of Texas, a 34-31 win over Minnesota. Tech quarterback Seth Doege was named the game's Most Valuable Player.
- Texas Tech will play its 42nd all-time football game in the city of Houston. Tech is 17-23-1 all-time in games played in Houston.
- Texas Tech will play its 22nd all-time bowl game within the state of Texas (8-El Paso, 6-Dallas, 5-Houston, 3-San Antonio).
- For the seventh time in its 10 years of existence, the Texas Bowl has welcomed a home-state team.
- Texas Tech has 15 student-athletes on its roster who are Houston area natives.
- For the ninth time in program history, Texas Tech will face a Southeastern Conference opponent in its bowl game (1953 Gator Bowl vs. Auburn; 1964 Sun Bowl vs. Georgia; 1973 Gator Bowl vs. Tennessee; 1974 Peach Bowl vs. Vanderbilt; 1986 Independence Bowl vs. Mississippi; 1998 Independence Bowl vs. Mississippi; 2005 Cotton Bowl vs. Alabama; 2008 Cotton Bowl vs. Mississippi).
- Texas Tech will play a Southeastern Conference team for the 138th time in program history. The Red Raiders defeated SEC opponent Arkansas, 35-24, in Fayetteville on Sept. 19.
- Texas Tech plays Louisiana State for the first time in 58 seasons. The Red Raiders are 0-2 all-time vs. LSU. The last time the two schools played was on Oct. 5, 1957, a 19-14 LSU win in Lubbock. The first meeting was on Oct. 16, 1954, a 20-13 LSU win in Baton Rouge.
