Dec. 2, 2015
The Red Raiders will once again boast one of the most challenging non-conference slates in the country with 13 games against opponents who advanced to at least an NCAA Regional a year ago, including a pair of marquee home weekend series against San Diego State and 2015 College World Series participant Cal State Fullerton.
"We welcome the challenge of our 2016 schedule," said Tadlock, who enters his fourth season leading his alma mater. "Top to bottom we play in one of the best leagues in the country and have tried to go out and schedule quality opponents to put our team in a position to play the game at the highest level possible each day."
Texas Tech will open the 2016 season with nine of its first 13 games inside Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park, beginning Feb. 19 with the start of a four-game series against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Red Raider fans who have not renewed their season tickets for the 2016 season can do so by calling the Texas Tech Ticket Office at 806-742-TECH or by visiting the new ticket office located at the southeast corner of Jones AT&T Stadium. The deadline for renewing season tickets has been extended to 5 p.m. CT Friday (Dec. 4).
Due to the overwhelming support from 2015, Texas Tech has created a waiting list for fans wishing to purchase 2016 season tickets. Fans interested in joining the wait list can do so by contacting the Texas Tech Ticket Office or by registering online.
The Red Raiders will make their ninth all-time appearance at the Houston College Classic in 2016 as Texas Tech face Houston, Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas at Minute Maid Park on Feb. 26-28.
TEXAS TECH TO APPEAR IN BOTH MAJOR LEAGUE BALLPARKS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS
For the third time in program history, Texas Tech will play in both Major League ballparks in the state of Texas as the Red Raiders will take part in the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park on Feb. 26-28 before facing UT Arlington on March 15 at Globe Life Park, the home of the Texas Rangers.
This will be Texas Tech's ninth all-time appearance in the Houston College Classic, which annually features several of the nation's top teams. All three of Texas Tech's opponents in the field -- Houston, Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas -- earned NCAA Regional bids in 2015 with Lafayette advancing to a Super Regional while Arkansas went a step further with a trip to Omaha and the College World Series.
The Red Raiders have not played at Globe Life Park in Arlington since the 2004 Big 12 Conference Tournament. It will be the 27th all-time meeting between Texas Tech and UT Arlington as the Red Raiders have won 18 of the last 19 meetings.
In addition to both Major League stadiums, the Red Raiders will return to Security Bank Ballpark, home of the Double-A Midland RockHounds, for their annual neutral-site game against Abilene Christian. The April 5 contest will be the first of two games between Texas Tech and ACU as the two schools will meet again on April 26 at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene.
Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock and the Red Raiders will face seven non-conference opponents who advanced to a NCAA Regional a year ago.
RED RAIDERS BOAST STRONG NON-CONFERENCE SLATE
Texas Tech will play three weekend series inside Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park during the non-conference portion of the schedule as the Red Raiders follow their season-opening set against Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Feb. 19-21) with three games against both Cal State Fullerton (March 4-6) and San Diego State (April 15-17).
This will be Fullerton's first trip to Lubbock and San Diego State's first since 2000 as both schools are completing a home-and-home agreement after the Red Raiders traveled to California twice in 2015.
Texas Tech's lone weekend series on the road will come March 11-13 with a four-game series at California, a NCAA Regional team from a year ago. It will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.
The Red Raiders will play 12 midweek games during the 2016 season, beginning Feb. 24 at Sam Houston State. Texas Tech will host midweek games against New Mexico State (March 1-2) and New Mexico (March 22) while making trips to face UT Arlington (March 15), UNLV (March 28-29), Abilene Christian (April 5 & 26), New Mexico (April 19-20) and Oral Roberts (May 10).
In total, Texas Tech will face seven non-conference opponents who advanced to a NCAA Regional a year ago -- San Diego State, Oral Roberts, Cal State Fullerton, California, Houston, Arkansas, and Louisiana Lafayette.
The Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship returns to Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City this season.
TEXAS TECH BEGINS BIG 12 PLAY ON MARCH 18 AT BAYLOR
The Red Raiders open Big 12 Conference play on March 18 at Baylor, marking the seventh-straight year Texas Tech has begun conference play on the road. It will be the fourth time since 2011 where Texas Tech and Baylor have opened conference action at Baylor Ballpark in Waco.
Texas Tech hosts Oklahoma on March 24-26 to open its Big 12 home slate. The Red Raiders will play three of their first five conference series at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park as Kansas State travels to Lubbock the following weekend (April 1-3) while Texas arrives two weeks later (April 22-24).
Following their series at Baylor, the Red Raiders will make conference road trips to Oklahoma State (April 8-10), TCU (April 29-May 1) and Kansas (May 6-8) before closing Big 12 play at home against West Virginia (May 19-21).
The top eight teams in the conference standings will advance to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on May 25-29. The five-day tournament will be held at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City for the 17th time in conference history.
