LUBBOCK, Texas -- Amber Battle scored 16 points to lead three Lady Raiders in double figures but Kansas erased a 17-point deficit in the second half and scored four unanswered points in the final minute for a 68-66 win over Texas Tech on Wednesday at United Supermarkets Arena.
Asia Boyd drove the lane and hit a layup with 0.6 second left in the game to seal the two-point win for Kansas. It was the first Big 12 Conference win for KU this season and just the second loss at home for Tech. The Lady Raiders lost for the third time following a loss this season.
Tech (12-6, 2-4 Big 12) flew out to a 10-2 advantage to start the game then watched Kansas tie the game at 18 and eventually take a 23-21 lead near the eight-minute mark of the first half. Then Tech's defense jumpstarted its offense as the Lady Raiders forced six turnovers and hit four of its seven first-half 3-pointers during a 22-5 run to end the half up 43-28. Kelsi Baker scored five of her 13 points in the first half and kept KU's guards from scoring in the paint early by taking seven charges in the opening 20 minutes.
It was the most points in a half by Tech since scoring 44 in the second half against Kansas State on Jan. 14, 2014. Tech tied a season high with its seven 3-pointers in the first half.
Battle and Jamie Roe hit baskets in the opening minutes of the second half to build Tech's lead to 17 before things started to go the opposite way.
Kansas (10-9, 1-5) shot 58 percent the rest of the way and used a 25-8 run in the second half to tie the game at 55 with less than seven minutes to go. Tech would hit only five more field goals the rest of the second half and missed an opportunity to tie the game with 28 seconds left before Kansas' final drive.
Ivonne CookTaylor scored 12 points off the bench while Minta Spears ended her 3-point drought with two treys on Wednesday. She was 0 of 7 during Big 12 play heading into the game.
Tech will head north to Oklahoma this weekend for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday against the Sooners (12-5, 6-0) at Lloyd Noble Center. Oklahoma has won seven straight games since starting the season 5-5.
