Tech Qualifies Four For NACAC Championships

Four Texas Tech student-athletes qualified for the prestigious NACAC Championships to be held Aug. 8-10 in Kamloops, BC.
LUBBOCK, Texas - With strong performances at the 2014 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships, four Texas Tech athletes officially qualified for the prestigious NACAC U-23 Championships as members of Team USA. The highly competitive international meet is scheduled to be held Aug. 8-10 in Kamloops, BC.
Texas Tech qualifiers on Team USA include Hannah Carson (Javelin), JaCorian Duffield (High Jump), Le'Tristan Pledger (100H) and Cierra White (200-meters and 4x100 Relay Pool).
To qualify for Team USA, athletes ages 20, 21 and 22 must have finished among the top-four at the U.S. Championships.
At the U.S. Championships, Carson finished seventh overall and third among collegians in the javelin with a career-best and school record heave of 56.43-meters (185-feet 1 inch) on Thursday. Duffield, the Big 12 Runner-Up, finished sixth overall and second among collegians in the high jump where he cleared 2.25-meters (7'-4.25") on his first attempt - matching the second-best clearance of his career.
In the women's 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Le'Tristan Pledger advanced to the semifinals where she finished 15th overall with a time of 13.30 seconds.
White, meanwhile, advanced to the finals of the women's 200-meter dash Sunday where she finished eighth overall and second among collegians with a time of 22.64 seconds.
The 2014 NACAC Championships will feature 24 competing teams from the North American, Central American and Caribbean nations.
