Beckie was joined by 15 other players from across the country as a semifinalist for the award that will be presented Jan. 9 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. The list of semifinalists will be trimmed to three finalists in the coming weeks.
"It's an honor to be selected as a semifinalist for such a prestigious award like the Hermann," said Beckie, a Highlands Ranch, Colorado, native. "The credit goes to my teammates and my coaches. As I've said before, my job is to score goals and I can't do that without my great teammates. They deserve a lot of credit in this honor."
This is the first time in Texas Tech soccer history where a Red Raider has been named a semifinalist for a national award such as the Hermann. Beckie is one of two Big 12 athletes recognized as a semifinalist, joining West Virginia defender Kadeisha Buchanan.
Beckie, the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, was among the top goal scorers in the country this season after totaling a career-high 17 goals to go along with four assists. She scored four of her goals during Tech's run in the NCAA Championship where the Red Raiders advanced to the third round of the tournament for the first time in program history.
Beckie ended the year as the Big 12 leader in both goals scored and points, two categories where she also ranks among the top 20 players in the country. She was also the conference leader in points per game, goals per game, game-winning goals and shot attempts.
The successful season placed Beckie in the Tech record book as she snapped the career mark for goals scored late in the year and is now second all-time for total points. Her 17 goals and 38 points this year rank second all-time on the Tech single-season chart as well.
Even if Beckie is not selected as the Hermann Trophy winner next month, she will enter her 2015 senior season as a preseason favorite for the award as she is one of four semifinalists classified as either a sophomore or junior.
Beckie and teammate Jaelene Hinkle were both previously named preseason candidates for the Hermann Trophy earlier this year, making Tech one of just six programs nationally with multiple players on the watch list.
NSCAA Division I coaches who are NSCAA College Services members will vote for the 2014 MAC Hermann Trophy winner in the coming weeks. Soccer fans can also participate in the voting by selecting Beckie on the NSCAA website.
