TEXAS TECH IN THE BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIP
? This will be Texas Tech's eighth-consecutive season to compete in the Big 12 Championship.
? The Red Raiders are 2-8-1 all-time in the Big 12 Championship and 0-1 against Texas in the tournament.
? Texas Tech is 2-6-1 all-time in opening round matches of the Big 12 Championship.
? Texas Tech fell to Texas in the opening round of the 2011 Big 12 Championship as the Longhorns claimed a 1-0 victory at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio.
? This will be the second time where Texas Tech and Texas have met in the No. 4-5 match (2011).
? Texas Tech will be looking for its first ever victory as the No. 4 seed as the Red Raiders fell to Missouri, 3-2, in the inaugural Big 12 Championship in 1996. Texas also handed a No. 4 seed Red Raider squad a 1-0 setback during the 2011 tournament.
? Texas Tech is 2-2 all-time when being the higher-seeded team in its opening round match.
? The Red Raiders have recorded a shutout in each of their last two opening round matches against Kansas (2-0) in 2012 and TCU (1-0) last season.
Texas Tech will be looking to rebound from a previous 1-0 overtime loss to Texas which came Sept. 26 earlier this season. The victory was only the second for Texas in its last seven matches with the Red Raiders, who entered the contest with wins in three of the last four meetings with their in-state rival. Texas scored the match's lone goal seven minutes into the first overtime period off Olivia Brook strike from the right side of the box that sailed to the upper left post and into the back of the net. The loss, Tech's first of the season at that point, dropped the Red Raiders to 6-13-3 all-time against Texas. This will be the second meeting all-time between the two schools at a neutral site after the Longhorns claimed a 1-0 victory to open the 2011 Big 12 Championship held at the time in San Antonio, Texas. Tech head coach Tom Stone is 3-4-2 all-time against Texas and 1-1 against second-year Texas head coach Angela Kelly.
TEXAS TECH IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Texas Tech heads to Kansas City ranked 18th in the Oct. 28 version of the NSCAA top-25 poll that debuts each Tuesday afternoon during the regular season. The Red Raiders, who enter the Big 12 Championship riding a four-match winning streak, have been ranked in the poll all season, appearing as high as No. 6 in the rankings on Sept. 16. The No. 6 ranking, a spot Tech held for two full weeks, was the highest in school history. Tech has now been in the NSCAA top-25 poll for a school-record 22-consecutive weeks dating back to the 2013 season. The Red Raiders are also 13th in the latest poll by Top Drawer Soccer and 16th in the rankings compiled by Soccer America.
RED RAIDERS LOOK TO ADD TO POSTSEASON RESUME
Texas Tech enters the postseason looking to further add to its NCAA Championship resume as the Red Raiders are nearly a lock to make the tournament field for a third-straight season. The Red Raiders, backed by three road victories this season over top-25 teams, currently rank 10th in the NCAA RPI rankings that widely determine postseason selections and seeding. Tech has never garnered a national seed in its last other two trips to the NCAA Championship (2012-13) that both ended in second round setbacks. The Red Raiders are the ONLY school in the country with three true road victories over an opponent currently ranked in the top 25 of the RPI (Notre Dame, California, Kansas).
