Texas Tech fell 3-0 to Iowa State in its final match of 2014, on Wednesday night.
AMES, Iowa -- The Texas Tech volleyball team was unable to come up with a win in its final regular-season match of 2014, losing to Iowa State, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-22), on Wednesday night, in Ames, Iowa.
Texas Tech will finish the 2014 season with a record of 14-14, the program's first season with at least a .500 record since 2001.

Tech allowed Iowa State to get off to a hot start, as the Cyclones rattled off four different runs of at least three points en route to a 25-15 win. The Cyclones (17-9, 9-6) struck for 15 kills and just two errors on only 28 swings, hitting .464.

In the second set, Tech did not allow ISU to score more than two consecutive points in any instance, but were only allowed to score while on serve five times, themselves. The Red Raiders only mustered three runs of at least three consecutive points for the duration of the match.

In set three, the Red Raiders took an early 4-2 lead, but Iowa State responded with a 5-0 run to move ahead, 7-4. From there, Iowa State pushed its lead to 14-9. The teams traded blows until Tech went on a 3-0 run, trimming the ISU lead to 22-19. However, that's as close as Tech would get, falling, 25-22.

"Mikia [Mills] was a competitor tonight and took some great swings in her final match as a Red Raider," Texas Tech head coach Don Flora said. "Bree David also came in and gave us a lift, putting away some big swings. Rachel [Brummitt] was outstanding as usual. Iowa State was just able to string together points when it mattered most."

Tech's outside hitters carried the day offensively, as Jenna Allen and Breeann David each recorded 10 kills. Mikia Mills logged seven kills and Lauren Douglass added six kills from the middle blocker position. Tech registered 37 kills as a team, but also had 16 errors, hitting .117 for the match. David finishes her illustrious Tech career with 1,011 kills, good enough for eighth place in program history.
From the setter position, Emily Ruetter picked up her sixth double-double in seven matches, with 26 assists and 12 digs.
Tech gave Iowa State problems defensively at the net, totaling eight blocks as a team, led by five from Douglass. Rachel Brummitt led the way in the digs category, finishing with 14. Tech's all-time leader will leave Lubbock with 1,624 career digs. She also passed the 500-dig mark for the third-straight season. No Red Raider before her had eclipsed 400 in more than one consecutive season.

We are all just so proud of Rachel, Bree, Mikia, Nicole Hragyil and Sam Podraza," Flora said. "They have given so much to this program and we are very thankful. They have been an outstanding and unforgettable class.
