LUBBOCK, Texas --
The Texas Tech volleyball team, despite a historic moment from Breeann David on senior day, fell to Oklahoma, 3-0, on Saturday at the United Supermarkets Arena.
Texas Tech (15-12, 3-12) decided to start all five seniors in the first set, and Tech went back-and-forth with the Sooners before giving up a late run and falling, 25-18. In the second set, Tech cut an 18-10 Sooner lead to 23-20, before falling, 25-21, and OU (19-9, 9-5) slammed the door with a 25-15 win in the third.
Senior Breeann David had nine kills, the eighth of which was the 1,000th of her career, becoming just the ninth player in program history to reach that plateau.
It's a really cool deal for [Breeann], especially to do it at home and on senior day," Texas Tech head coach Don Flora said. "There's a lot of things that go into that, and she'll be the first to credit the people around her and her teammates. She is a special talent, and she loved being a Red Raider. Her family played here and she bleeds red and black, so I know she's excited to put her name in the record book like that.
Jenna Allen led the way for tech with 11 kills, Mikia Mills had six kills and Whitney Ford tied her career high with three. Senior setter Nicole Hragyil had 16 assists. Senior Sam Podraza chipped in a kill, a block and a dig.
As a team, Tech recorded 34 kills on 108 swings, hitting .167. Mills was the most accurate of the Red Raiders, posting a hitting percentage of .231.
On the defensive end, as she has her whole career, senior Rachel Brummitt led the way with 12 digs. She is now just two digs away from being the first Red Raider to post three-straight seasons with 500 digs or more. Coincidentally, her three seasons will be the three highest single-season dig totals in program history.
Tech struggled defensively, allowing OU to hit .374, the highest percentage the Red Raiders have allowed in 2014. Tech had 40 digs as a team and six total team blocks, led by three blocks from Lauren Douglass.
Texas Tech will be back in action, playing its final game of the 2014 regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Iowa State. First serve from Ames, Iowa, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
