LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior defender and team captain Hayley Haagsma was officially named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team today as announced by the organization.
Haagsma, a 4.0 student-athlete in Human Development and Family Studies, helped guide the Red Raiders to an 18-2-3 season as a premier center-back. The senior from Cerritos, Calif. was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team earlier this season, and is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection.
She is the second Academic All-American in program history.
Haagsma was one of three defenders from across the country named to the First Team, and earned Academic All-District honors from Capital One/CoSIDA in 2012.
In 2013, she scored four goals and tallied three assists for the Red Raiders as the squad made its second-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament round of 32.
Tech's 18 victories this season set a new school record, while Haagsma was a member of the 2013 senior class that tallied 55 victories in four seasons.
