
Unbeaten Kithuka Qualifies For NCAA Nationals

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior sensation Kennedy Kithuka continued his remarkable 2012 campaign Friday by finishing first overall at the NCAA Mountain Region meet Friday in Fort Collins, Colo.
Kithuka crossed the line first with a time of 29:36.8 in the men's 10,000-meter race, and automatically qualifies for the NCAA Championship meet in Louisville, Ky., scheduled for Nov. 17.
"He had a great race and wanted to do what it took to get to nationals and that's exactly what he did." Texas Tech head coach Jon Murray said. "He will be a great representative at nationals for Texas Tech."
The Red Raiders finished 11th in the team standings with 275 points while the Lady Raiders finished 20th in the women's standings with 561 points. The 11th-place finish marks the best by the Texas Tech men's team since 2007.
Kithuka was followed by teammate Ezekiel Kissorio who finished 27th overall with a time of 30:58.4.
Rachel Folan paced the Lady Raiders finishing 96th overall with a time of 23:07.6 as the lone Texas Tech women's runner inside the top-100.
