LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman forward Janine Beckie continued to add to her already impressive string of honors on Wednesday as she became the first Red Raider in program history to be named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA Player of the Week.
The national recognition comes after Beckie was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Year and joined a group of four Red Raiders to the All-Big 12 First Team.
"It is quite an honor to be recognized at the national level," Texas Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "But Janine has worked very hard all year for this team, and any recognition that comes her way is well earned."
As the Disney Soccer/NSCAA Player of the Week, Beckie will be featured on the upcoming NSCAA College Game of the Week on FOX Soccer Channel.
Beckie scored twice in the Red Raiders' regular season finale Friday leading Tech to a 2-0 shutout victory over Oklahoma State at the John Walker Soccer Complex in front of a nationally-televised audience on FOX Soccer Channel.
Beckie netted her first goal in the 55th minute of play before giving Tech the 2-0 lead with a long strike that beat All-Big 12 First Team goalkeeper Adrianna Franch and gave the Red Raiders a school record 14th victory.
It marked her second multi-goal performance of the year while also marking her fourth game-winning goal of the season.
Beckie leads the Red Raiders into the 2012 Big 12 Championships this weekend as the team's leading scorer with 11 goals which also paces all Big 12 freshmen.
The Highlands Ranch Colo., native has twice earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors and becomes the first freshman in 2012 the be recognized as the NSCAA Player of the Week.
