LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior midfielder Taylor Lytle and freshman defensemen Jaelene Hinkle were named to the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Central Region Teams on Thursday.
The senior captain Lytle was named to the All-Central Region Second Team while Hinkle was named to the All-Central Region Third Team.
This is the second postseason award for both players. Hinkle was a unanimous selection on the All-Big 12 Newcomer Team and Lytle was named to the conference's second team. Lytle was also named to the All-Central Region Team in 2009.
"We are thrilled to once again have representation on the All-Central Region Teams," Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "Taylor and Jae both had outstanding seasons and given the level of talent in our region, it's a real honor to have been selected."
Lytle wrapped up her four-year career in Lubbock by becoming Tech's all-time assist leader with 27. She captured the record on an assist to Jessica Fuston in double-overtime to beat Texas, 3-2. Lytle finishes with more 5,456 minutes played in 72 games, starting 67 of them while scoring 14 goals, 55 points and six game-winners.
"Taylor loves the assist so it's only fitting that she broke the all time record for assists here at Texas Tech," Stone said. "Breaking the record at home in front of a packed house to beat Texas in OT in her last home game is a memory she will never forget. Taylor has been the face of this program for the last four years and her impact on our ability to build Texas Tech Soccer has been remarkable."
Hinkle started 19 of 20 games in her first year, scoring one goal and collecting three assists while quickly becoming a defensive presence on the field for the Red Raiders. Tech became one of the most improved defensive teams, allowing just 17 goals during the regular season compared to 34 the previous year.
"I think Jae was one of the top left backs in all of college soccer this year," Stone said. "She was a left back, left mid and a left wing all at the same time. The modern game demands defenders who can also dribble, pass, serve, score and get up and down the flank—Jae showed all these traits in her freshman year so we are excited to see her development over the next three."
