LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman Jessica Disabella received her first conference honor as she was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for her performances against North Texas and Oral Roberts in the Red Raider Classic.
This is the second-straight week that Disabella has been recognized for her efforts on the soccer field. Last week she was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's College Players to Watch Top 100 Freshmen list.
"Jessica has had a bit of baptism by fire," said head coach Tom Stone. "When we lost Conner (Williams) for the season, Jessica, only a freshman, stepped in and has played quite well. Her fitness is exceptional and she has made the transition quickly to our system and the college game. On a weekend where we did not play our best, Jess had the winner on Friday night and assisted on the winner on Sunday. It's terrific that she has been recognized by the Big 12 for her play."
The Flower Mound, Texas, native totaled three points on the weekend as the Red Raiders improved to 7-1 and notched their sixth and seventh shutouts of the season. The midfielder secured her first collegiate goal on Friday, the game-winner in the 84th minutes as Tech edged North Texas, 1-0. On Sunday, she provided the assist for the game-winning goal as the Red Raiders defeated Oral Roberts, 1-0. Disabella was selected to the Red Raider Classic all-tournament team for her efforts.
