Red Raider Profile - Hunter Scott
LUBBOCK, Texas - Although the Texas Tech baseball team has wrapped up its fall season, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will continue taking an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Hunter Scott (RHP - 6-3, 215 - R/R -Fr./HS - Lubbock, Texas/Coronado)
Hunter Scott didn't have to go far when looking for his next step along his baseball career path. A local standout during his high school career at Lubbock Coronado High School, Scott succeeded at both the plate and on the mound.
Scott signed with the Red Raiders after a junior season that saw him bat .406 with two homers, nine doubles and a .496 on-base percentage while going 6-1 with two saves and 47 strikeouts on the mound.
Scott will now focus primarily on his talents on the mound with the Texas Tech pitching staff.
During his senior season, Scott was named an ESPN RISE Baseball Athlete of the Week on May 25, after he led Coronado to a two-game sweep over Arlington Martin High School in the Class 5A State Playoffs. Scott tossed a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and went 2-for-2 with three RBI in a 6-0 win in game one. He then led Coronado to a 2-1 win in the second game going 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Scott also earned all-city and all-district honors while at Coronado.
"Hunter Scott has a good arm," head coach Dan Spencer said. "He battled an injury and missed quite a bit during the fall. He is starting to throw now. He is a big guy with a good arm. We are looking for him to be someone who helps us down the road in the future."
Scott, along with freshman Mason Randolph, played for current Texas Tech director of baseball operations Jimmy Webster at Coronado. Scott and Randolph helped lead Webster's squad to the district championship and to the program's first 30-win season in 2010.
