
Seven Named to Academic All-Big 12 Soccer Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - Seven Texas Tech student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Soccer Team, which was announced today by the Big 12 Conference.
Among the 101 student-athletes named to both the first and second teams, junior Maggie Fete (Accounting) was one of five nominated with a 4.00 grade-point average. This is the second-straight year that Fete has been named to the first team.
Joining Fete on the first team are seniors Leanne Mihelich (Management) and Colleen Pitts (Mass Communications), along with junior Casey McCall (Human Sciences) and sophomores Sarah Ellison (Pre-Medical), Haley Fowler (Mechanical Engineering) and Tiffini Smith (Business).
The honor is also the second for McCall, while the other five are first-time recipients.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the soccer academic all-league squad consisted of 79 first team members combined with 22 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
