Red Raider Profile - Hayden Holub
LUBBOCK, Texas - Although the Texas Tech baseball team has wrapped up its fall season, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will continue taking an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Hayden Holub (RHP - 5-11, 195 - R/R -Jr./TR - Seymour, Texas/Seymour/Seward County CC)
Hayden Holub is one of many pitchers on the Red Raiders pitching staff who is looking to win a job come spring time with a lot of roles open to be filled both in both starting and relief roles. Holub pitched in a starter's role during his second junior-college season at Seward County Community College, but he also doesn't mind coming out of the bullpen.
In fact, Holub made three appearances during the Tech annual Red & Black Series where he earned one save with a 2.19 ERA in 3.2 innings of work.
In 2010 with the Seward County Saints, Holub made 10 starts with two complete games and pitched one shutout. He notched 34 strikeouts in 42.2 innings pitched. Holub pitched out of the bullpen during his freshman year at SCCC, where he made 13 appearances (three starts) pitching 17.0 innings with 16 strikeouts.
"Hayden is a guy who has a plus-breaking ball," head coach Dan Spencer said. "He is competitive, he can throw on back-to-back days and he will pitch out of our bullpen. He has been very good pitching against right-handed hitters."
Holub and teammate Kelby Tomlinson began their collegiate careers together at Seward County, where both were members of the Saints 2009 Region VI runner-up squad and Seward County's 2010 Jayhawk West Conference championship season.
