LUBBOCK, Texas - Although the Texas Tech baseball team has wrapped up its fall season, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will continue taking an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Jordan Lopez (OF - 6-0, 195 - R/R -Fr./HS - Edmond, Okla./Edmond Santa Fe)
Jordan Lopez ended his high school career as a four-time All-Edmond selection as he climbed through the high school ranks early during his career. Lopez did what is rare at the elite Edmond Santa Fe program - start as a freshman.
He will be looking to have an impressive debut once again, this time as a Red Raider, in a loaded outfield that includes 2010 Big 12 Freshman of the Year Barrett Barnes and junior Scott LeJeune, who led the Big 12 with 28 doubles last season.
Lopez brings his own credentials to the table after a highly successful prep career. As a senior, the first team all-state selection led his team with a .427 batting average, 32 runs scored, three triples, 14 walks and stealing 14-of-14 stolen bases. He also belted six homers and six doubles with 20 RBI. He led his team to a 36-5 overall record and to a perfect 12-0 record during league play.
As a junior, in only 38 games played, Lopez batted .430 with nine homers, 45 runs scored and 29 RBI with an astounding .540 on-base percentage with 31 base-on-balls.
Lopez got hot during the end of his first fall season at Tech batting .389 (7-for-18) with six runs, three doubles and two walks while leading all players with eight RBI during the five-game series. Lopez had three multi-hit games, and during game four he went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI.
"Jordan did a great job this fall," head coach Dan Spencer said. "He didn't hit a lot early, but he had a great last week, which is great for a player because he makes you think he is going to compete at this level offensively, and I think he will in his career. He is a very good outfielder and a very good center fielder. He can play all three outfield positions."
Lopez and Tech redshirt freshman Duke von Schamann (RHP/INF) were teammates at Edmond Santa Fe while the duo helped the Wolves advance to the 2009 Oklahoma State Class 6A championship game.
