Red Raider Profile - Zach Fowler
LUBBOCK, Texas - Although the Texas Tech baseball team has wrapped up its fall season, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will continue taking an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Zach Fowler (LHP - 6-3, 195 - L/L - RS Jr./TR - Texarkana, Texas/Liberty-Eylau/Texarkana College)
Zach Fowler has been around the block, but you wouldn't know it by looking at the Red Raiders' box scores from a year ago. That is because Fowler, a redshirt junior, was among four Texas Tech players who missed all of last season with Tommy John arm surgery.
Fowler is now coming around on one year of rehab where the lefty is now focused on trying to be a factor in the Red Raiders success during the upcoming 2011 season. Fowler came to Texas Tech after two seasons at Texarkana College, where he was a dual threat on the mound and at the plate.
Fowler won five games on the mound and batted .350 with 12 stolen bases as a position player in his final season at Texarkana. Fowler, coming out of Liberty-Eylau High School, was named the 2006 State Tournament Most Valuable Player and was a 2007 All-State selection as a pitcher and outfielder.
"Zach is a guy that we really don't know what we have with him yet, because until this fall he never threw a pitch here because he was hurt," head coach Dan Spencer said. "We are excited for him to be here. He is a great worker and a great kid. He is left handed and a big guy. He is in position to really help us this year."
Fowler made one appearance during the annual Red & Black Series as he threw 2.2 innings - in a start - with three strikeouts.
