Red Raider Profile - Joe Burnett
LUBBOCK, Texas - Although the Texas Tech baseball team has wrapped up its fall season, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will continue taking an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Joe Burnett (RHP - 6-2, 205 - L/R -So./1L - Cache, Okla./Cache)
Joe Burnett returns for his sophomore season after making three appearances with a 4.50 ERA in 2010. Burnett was one of only three freshmen pitchers on the Texas Tech pitching staff last season, and will now look to use his year of experience as an advantage for the upcoming campaign in 2011.
Burnett made his collegiate debut in Big 12 action against Baylor on May 16. Burnett pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts against the Bears. He later made a one-inning relief appearance at Nebraska (5/22), and later pitched another scoreless inning with two strikeouts in the Big 12 Championships against Texas A&M (5/26).
"Joe is just trying to find consistency because Joe has as good of an arm as anyone on our club," head coach Dan Spencer said. "He throws his fastball in the low-90's, he has a power curveball, the issue is just throwing enough strikes. We love Joe here in our program because he is such a good kid, and he has a good arm, and he does all of his work. He is a very good ambassador for Texas Tech."
Burnett is one of only four players on the Red Raiders' roster from the state of Oklahoma, joining shortstop Kelby Tomlinson (Elgin), infielder/right-handed pitcher Duke von Schamann (Edmond) and outfielder Jordan Lopez (Edmond).
