
Second Meet Ahead for Tech Cross Country

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's and women's cross country squads have its second meet of the year this Fri., Sept. 18 at the Meadowbrook Golf Course as it hosts the Texas Tech Open with races starting at 5 p.m.
The Lady Raiders head into the meet ranked No. 24 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association preseason rankings released yesterday. The squad is No. 5 in the Mountain Region.
Lillian Badaru who won this individual race last year, leads the Lady Raiders into the meet. Tech won the women's race last year with a score of 25 points. Gladys Kipsang was third a year ago and Michelle Guzman was sixth.
The men's team will look for another strong showing after finishing second last year. Gilbert Limo placed fourth on the course one season ago. The men's squad is currently the 15th ranked squad in the Mountain Region.
Both the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders are coming off impressive openers. Gilbert Limo and Gladys Kipsang won the individual titles at the Texas Tech Ruidoso Open and both teams won the team titles.
The Texas Tech Open will be hosting 12 teams at Meadowbrook Golf Course. The team competing are Colby Community College, Lubbock Christian, New Mexico Highlands, New Mexico Junior College, New Mexico Military Institute, Odessa College, South Plains, Sterling College, UT-Permian Basin, West Texas A&M, Wayland Baptist and Western College.
The open mile will begin at 5 p.m. and the women's 6K race will start roughly at 5:30 p.m. The men's 8K will follow both races.
