
Tech Runs After Big 12 Cross Country Titles

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's and women's cross country squads head to Ames, Iowa, to run in the 2008 Big 12 Cross Country Championships held at the Iowa State Cross Country course, as senior Sally Kipyego tries to win her third-straight Big 12 cross country championship.
Kipyego has won the last two Big 12 championships and leads the No. 12 Lady Raiders into the meet as the top ranked team. The Lady Raiders are coming off of its second-straight Chile Pepper Festival title. No. 17 Baylor and No. 27 Nebraska are the other ranked teams competing this Saturday.
Junior Lillian Badaru has helped the Lady Raiders throughout the season finishing in the top five in all of the meets she has ran and junior Gladys Kipsang has finished in the top 10 in three out of four meets. Senior Asia Diaz and sophomore Michelle Guzman are also key to the team as both have two top 10 finishes.
Senior Chep Boit, freshman Brintney Green, sophomore Katherine Priebe adds to the talented group of Lady Raiders that are vying for a Big 12 Championship.
The men's squad is led by sophomore Gilbert Limo faces tough competition as No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 17 Colorado, No. 18 Texas A&M, No. 22 Iowa State and No. 30 Texas have an opportunity to win the title.
Limo has finished in the top 10 in all four meets this season. Junior Cory Higgins and sophomore Logan Culotta have improved throughout the season and both finished in the top 75 of the Chile Pepper Festival. Sophomore transfer Nathan Milles has shown his experience and helped the team every week.
Sophomore David Boston, freshman Zack Dawson, junior Aaron Greer, sophomore Jeremy Kight, freshman James Rodriguez and junior Jake Szot all have the potential to push the Red Raiders
The races will begin with the women's 6,000-meter run at 10 a.m. CT, followed by the men's 8,000-meter event at 11 a.m. at the Iowa State Cross Country course.
