
National Declaration Lists Include 17 Red Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field team will travel with a contingent of 17 Red Raiders to Sacramento, Calif., for the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships from June 6-9. Nine men and eight women will represent the Red and Black at the national meet, including three at-large bids.
On the men's side, Marlon Odom and Bryan Scott advanced after earning regional titles on May 26th in the 110M hurdles and 400M hurdles, respectively. Bobby Evers (long jump) and Zach Glavash (800M) each earned their place after finishing as the runner-up in the individual events. Jansen Hyde (400M hurdles) and Jamie Robinson (javelin) each advanced out of the NCAA Midwest Regionals this past week. Kevin Chelimo will run in the 10000M after automatically qualifying during the season.
Earning at-large bids for the men were pole vaulter Seth Harris and triple jumper Anthony Flemons. Harris cleared 16'-7.25" in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday, placing ninth. He finished with a mark of 17'-6.5", his personal best, at the Big 12 Championships, sitting at the 10th best height in the country. Flemons placed eighth at the regional event with a jump of 50'-9.25". At the Drake Relays, he took the crown with a personal and eighth-best national mark of 52'-9.25" to earn his place to nationals.
For the women, Sally Kipyego earned her place in both the 5000M and 10000M, as she advanced from the regionals in the 5000M and automatically qualified during the season with an NCAA record run in the 10000M. Irene Kimaiyo placed fifth in the 5000M to move on to the championships and sits as Tech's only other female runner to qualify. For field events, Tech regional advancers are Amanda Alley (pole vault), D'Andra Carter (discus), Ozie Okolie (hammer throw), Kelley Schulz (pole vault) and Lacy Wilson (high jump).
Patience Knight earned an at-large bid for the championships in the discus. The sophomore Red Raider had a season-best throw of 171'-6" at the Big 12 Championships, finishing with all-conference honors in fourth place. Knight took eighth at the Midwest Regionals with a best mark of 158'-2".
