Crabtree Grabs FWAA All-America Honor

LUBBOCK, Texas - Michael Crabtree's name is quickly becoming synonymous with some of the greats in Texas Tech Football history. With his inclusion in the Football Writers Association of America's (FWAA)All-America team Saturday, the freshman receiver and recent Biletnikoff Award is an Associated Press All-America team inclusion away from earning unanimous All-America status.
The NCAA recognizes five All-America teams - Associated Press, The Sporting News, Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Walter Camp - and inclusion on three of those qualifies the recipient for "consensus" status. Being named to all five garners "unanimous consensus" honors.
In addition to the FWAA, Crabtree has been named an All-American by the AFCA, The Sporing News and Walter Camp Football Foundation, qualifying him as a consensus All-American. The Associated Press will announce its team next week.
Other Red Raiders to receive consensus status include E.J. Holub (1959-60), Dave Parks (1953), Donny Anderson (1964-65), Gabe Rivera (1982), Mark Bounds (1991), Zach Thomas (1995) and Montae Reagor (1998).
Additionally, Crabtree has been named to every Big 12 Conference first team and has received numerous conference offensive player of the year and newcomer of the year honors as well as being named to several freshman All-America teams.
Crabtree leads the nation's receivers with 125 receptions, 1,861 yards and 21 receiving touchdowns.
Whitlock, Duncan Selected to Freshman All-America Teams
CollegeFootballNews.com released its Freshman All-America Team on Friday and included true freshman nose tackle Colby Whitlock (Noble, Okla.) and linebacker Brian Duncan (Baton Rouge, La.) on its second and third teams, respectively.
Previously, Whitlock was selected to Scout.com's Freshman All-America First Team. Whitlock finished the regular season as one of the top defensive linemen in the Big 12 Conference and led all Red Raider defensive linemen with 30 solo tackles.
Duncan took over the starting role at strongside linebacker early in the season and never relinquished the role. He is the team's fifth-leading tackler with 62 stops, while his 44 solo tackles lead the Tech linebacking group.
