JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sticking to the norm, Texas Tech completed its third practice as preparations for the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl continued Friday at the University of North Florida. The Red Raiders are conducting business much like each game week during the season.
The squad spent the session installing the game plan for next week's game against the University of Virginia. Practice opened with a special teams period, followed by position drills and seven-on-seven. The team period closed practice with both offensive and defensive units working against the scout teams.
Prior to Friday's practice, the team was treated to the Big 12 Lunch Down Under at Outback Steakhouse, another function for the players sponsored by the Gator Bowl. The annual children's hospital visit is scheduled for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. local time and the team resumes workouts Saturday at 2 p.m. at UNF.
Texas Tech will appear in the 31st bowl game in program history next week and ranks among the top 20 programs all-time in bowl appearances. This year's visit to Jacksonville is the fourth for Texas Tech, which also participated in the Gator Bowl in 1954, 1965 and 1973, with wins in 1954 and 1973.
The Red Raiders and Cavaliers kickoff at 1 p.m. on CBS from Jacksonville Municipal Stadium on New Year's Day.

Each day this week a Texas Tech player will share his thoughts on the Gator Bowl, game preparations and activities. True freshman punter Jonathan LaCour visited with us today and shared his thoughts:
Thoughts on first bowl experience: "It's been a lot of fun. It's not what I expected. The guys have been great to hang around and the coaches have been fun to be around."
Thoughts on which veterans he's leaned on during first bowl week: "I've been hanging out with (Alex) Trlica, (Grant) Berg and Austin (Burns) and they have been telling me what to do; providing me guidance."
Thoughts on favorite bowl experience: "We may go to the beach tonight. Dave & Busters was fun and staying at the hotel has been fun. Just hanging out with the guys and having everybody around."
Thoughts on best bowl game to date: "I've only seen the Texas and Arizona State game, but it was good."
Thoughts on roommate and fellow punter Grant Berg: "He's alright. We've become really good friends over the season, so it's been good. Our room's a mess and it is every week on the road. The second we get in there it's a mess. We always host the specialists, so it's always a mess and a combined effort."
