
Red Raiders Set for Cross Country Mountain Regionals

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders are headed to NCAA Mountain Regional Championships hosted by Weber State in Ogden, Utah, held Sat., Nov. 10, at the Schneiter's Riverside Golf Course for the men's 10K and the women's 6K.
The Red Raider women's team is No. 14 in the nation, going into this weekend's contest. The women placed second in 2006 with 87 points, with the contribution from last year's NCAA champion, Sally Kipyego and tenth place finisher, Irene Kimaiyo. The Tech teammates clocked times of 19:45.9 and 21:14, respectively. Tech also had runners finish 17th, 20th, 39th, 71st, and 106th spots out of 119 individuals. The team will face nationally ranked teams including: No. 12 Colorado State, No. 15 Colorado, No. 17 Brigham Young and No. 20 Northern Arizona.
The Tech men's team represents the Mountain Region at the 13th spot. The men's squad earned a 12th-place finish, with the help from Silas Kemboi and Edwin Sang, placing in fourth and 56th with times of 32:32.1 and 32:57.9, respectively. The men will run against nationally ranked teams including: No. 2 Northern Arizona, No. 3 UTEP and No. 26 Brigham Young.
The other Mountain Region teams competing include: Air Force Academy, Northern Arizona, Colorado, Colorado State, Brigham Young, UTEP, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, New Mexico, Southern Utah, Utah State, Weber State and Wyoming.
The men's race begins at 11 a.m., while the women are set for 12:15 p.m. MT.
