RED RAIDERS SHINE ON NATIONAL STAGE
Finding themselves on the biggest stage of the season, the Red Raiders responded in grand fashion. Tonight's win over the third-ranked Sooners matches the highest ranked opponent that Tech has defeated in school history. Back on Nov. 16, 2002, Texas Tech also ended the national championship hopes of the third-ranked Texas Longhorns as Tech scored a 42-38 win for what was then the highest ranked team that Tech had ever beaten.
- Tech's last win over an opponent ranked in the Top 5 was a 45-31 win over fourth-ranked California in the 2004 Holiday Bowl.
- Texas Tech's 34 points tonight marked the most against the Sooners since a 38-28 win in Spike Dykes' last season back in 1999.
HARRELL MAKES HIS CASE FOR THE DAVEY O'BRIEN
Junior gunslinger Graham Harrell made his case tonight for the 2007 Davey O'Brien Trophy. The Ennis, Texas native eclipsed the 5,000-yard mark for the season for the first time in his career as he finished the night with 420 yards to give him 5,298 on the year. Harrell became the second quarterback in Tech history to throw for 5,000-plus yards in a single season as BJ Symons threw for an NCAA record 5,833 back in 2003. Including Harrell, only six quarterbacks in NCAA history have reached the 5,000 yard mark in a single season.
ANOTHER BIG NIGHT FOR THE CRAB MAN
Freshman Michael Crabtree showed a nationwide audience on ABC this evening just why he should take home the 2007 Biletnikoff Trophy that is awarded each year to the nation's top wide receiver. The national leader in receptions and receiving yards per-game put on another show for the home crowd as he finished the night with 12 catches for 154 yards and 1 touchdown.
- Electrified the Jones AT&T Stadium crowd midway through the first quarter when he caught a 60-yard pass and stepped out of bounds at the one-yard line. On the next play, Tech took its first lead of the game when Harrell rushed for a one-yard touchdown. The 60-yard reception marked his fourth longest of the season and was the fifth longest play from scrimmage this year by the Tech offense.
- Hauled in his 21st touchdown catch of the season with 12:18 remaining in the second quarter when he caught a 13-yard strike from Graham Harrell. His touchdown gave the Red Raiders a 19-7 lead.
- Registered his 10th 100-yard receiving game of the season when he caught a three-yard slant pass on a 4th and 1 situation in the second quarter. The NCAA record will be just out of his reach as Aaron Turner had 11, 100-yard games at Pacific in 1991.
- Crabtree along with teammate Danny Amendola became just the third pair of teammates to each have 100-plus catches in the same season.
TRLICA SETS NCAA EXTRA POINTS RECORD
PK Alex Trlica set the NCAA career record for extra points made with his 227th at the 12:18 mark in the second quarter, breaking the previous record of 226 set by Bowling Green's Shaun Suisham (2001-04). Trlica also holds the NCAA mark for career extra points without a miss.
NOTING THE RED RAIDERS
- Graham Harrell threw an interception on Tech's first drive of the game and Lendy Holmes returned it 63 yards for the Oklahoma touchdown. The last time Harrell threw an INT for a touchdown was against Colorado and it went for a return of 42 yards by Jordon Dizon. Harrell has now had three INT's returned for a touchdown this season.
- Oklahoma turned the ball over (fumble by Allen Patrick and 12-yard return by Marlon Williams) on their first offensive play and it resulted in Texas Tech's first points of the ballgame. Senior kicker Alex Trlica booted a 51-yard field goal to make the score 7-3 in favor of Oklahoma. The 51-yard field goal tied his season high.
- Trlica added his second field goal of the night with 6:42 remaining in the first quarter to cut the Oklahoma lead to 7-6. The 38-yard field goal was his third make from 30-40 yards out this season.
- Sophomore defensive lineman Rajon Henley sacked Oklahoma quarterback Joey Halzle on a 3rd and 16 situation midway through the first quarter to register his 3rd ½ sack of the season.
- With his rushing score in the first quarter, QB Graham Harrell recorded his fourth of the season and is one short of B.J. Symons' record five scores in 2003 by a Leach-coached quarterback.
- Junior receiver Eric Morris found the endzone for the ninth time this season when he caught a 15-yard pass from Graham Harrell with 9:18 remaining in the second quarter. The touchdown gave Texas Tech a 26-7 lead.
- Freshman running back Aaron Crawford gave Tech a 33-10 lead with 12:25 remaining in the third quarter when he scored on a three-yard rush. The touchdown was his third of the season on the ground.
- Senior cornerback Chris Parker picked up his first interception of the season late in the third quarter. The INT marked the fourth of his career.
- With 72 passing attempts tonight, QB Graham Harrell broke his career high in attempts, breaking his previous high of 69 set earlier this year against Missouri.
