LUBBOCK, Texas - After another strong weekend on both the offensive and defensive ends, Soccer America Magazine named Texas Tech sophomore defender Brittney Harrison to its Team of the Week today.
This is Harrison's third weekly accolade this season, as the Plano, Texas, native was last week's Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week and also a member of Soccer Buzz's Elite Team of the Week.
In Tech's 1-0 victory over previously 18th-ranked Oklahoma State Sunday, Harrison scored the game-winning goal, heading in a Sarabeth Clopton free kick in the 72nd minute, while also helping Tech collect consecutive shutouts for the second time this season. The Red Raiders tied Oklahoma Friday, 0-0.
Despite playing on the back line, Harrison is tied for the team high in goals with fellow sophomore Zhaleh Rezaie with three, while her .800 shot on goal percentage is the highest on the team.
Harrison's goal against the Cowgirls also moved her into a tie for ninth place atop the school's career goals list with senior forward Priscilla Esquivel as each has 12 goals throughout their careers.
The Red Raiders will defend the "Battle for the Brand" trophy Fri., Oct. 26 against Baylor, before closing the regular season in College Station against No. 2 Texas A&M.
