Kipsang Named Big 12 Runner of the Week

LUBBOCK, Texas - Freshman Red Raider Gladys Kipsang earned the Big 12 Female Runner of the Week, as announced by the conference on Wednesday. The honor marks the first for the newcomer and first for a Tech member since Haron Lagat in October 2004.

Kipsang finished her first race, the Mike Boit Invitational in Clovis, N.M, with a time of 18:05 in the 5K. Her second-place finish anchored the women's squad to a second-place team standing.

The team will next compete at their lone home race on Sept. 15, 2006. The Red Raider Jackrabbit Open gets underway at 6:30 p.m. with the women's race, and the men's is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
