
Former Red Raider Jeff Karstens Earns MLB Debut Tonight

LUBBOCK, Texas - Former Texas Tech closer Jeff Karstens has earned his Major League debut and will be the starting pitcher for the New York Yankees tonight as they open up a three-game series at Seattle.
Karstens pitched for the Red Raiders in 2003 and ended the season with an 8-4 record, six saves and a 4.29 ERA through 63 innings. Following the 2003 season, he was a draft eligible junior and was taken in the 19th round by the Yankees.
Prior to his weekend call-up, Karstens was 5-5 with a 4.28 ERA in 14 starts with Triple-A Columbus. He started out the 2006 season with Double-A Trenton where he tallied a 6-0 record in 11 starts and a 2.31 ERA.
