Kieschnick Earns Big 12 Player of the Week Honor

LUBBOCK, Texas - Freshman left fielder Roger Kieschnick and Oklahoma State's Brae Wright were named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Pitcher of the Week by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
The honor is the first of the season for Kieschnick who is currently in the running for the league's Freshman Player of the Year. On Tuesday, Kieschnick also received an invite from Team USA to be one of 36 players at the national team trials in late June where he will compete for a spot on the Team USA roster.
Player: Roger Kieschnick, Fr., 6-3, 200, Texas Tech (Rockwall, Texas) Kieschnick helped lead the Red Raiders to a perfect 4-0 week as the Tech defeated New Mexico last Wednesday and then swept Missouri over the weekend. The sweep is the first by the Red Raiders over a Big 12 opponent since the 2004 season. Kieschnick went 9-for-15 at the plate (.600) with one home run and three RBI. The home run marked his eighth of the season, and he added three multiple hit games along with two stolen bases and a .650 on-base percentage as Tech qualified for the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship in Oklahoma City May 24-28.
Pitcher: Brae Wright, Sr., 6-3, 205, Oklahoma State (Southaven, Miss.) Wright earned the win in the series clincher on Saturday by tossing his second shutout of the season and his fourth complete game. He allowed just six hits, struck out five and walked one. OU entered the series leading the Big 12 Conference in hitting. He improved to 7-2 on the season and has a 3.78 ERA. The Mississippian also tossed the first shutout by a Cowboys' hurler against Oklahoma since 1985.
