Williams Named to Sporting News Freshman Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech defensive lineman Brandon Williams (Fort Worth, Texas/South Hills) was named to The Sporting News Big 12 All-Freshman team, the publication announced Friday morning. The honor is the first recognition of the season for Williams' efforts on the field.
Williams was active off the bench for the Red Raiders, working in a defensive rotation that produced 29 sacks that ranked among the top half in the Big 12 Conference. The true freshman totaled 16 tackles on the season, including three and a half sacks. Williams produced a season-high five tackles and two sacks in the win over Southeastern Louisiana and added a sack and a half in the Baylor win.
Earlier this week, a trio of Red Raiders was named to All-Big 12 Coaches teams, including wide receiver Joel Filani on the first team. Offensive tackle Glenn January and defensive end Keyunta Dawson were selected to the second team.
