
Tech Soccer Places Six On Academic All-Big 12 Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 Conference named 88 student-athletes to the 2006 Academic All-Big 12 Soccer First Team on Tuesday. Six of the student-athletes that were honored for their achievements in the classroom are members of the Texas Tech soccer team.
The Red Raiders who were placed on the first team were highlighted by senior defender Ana Morton and junior Kim Cypert. Joining Morton and Cypert was sophomores Shanna Brown, Chessa Purser, Tina Rincon and Shannon Sims.
The student-athletes are nominated by the institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices. The soccer academic all-league squad consisted of 67 first team members and 21 on the second team. First team members are student-athletes that have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA. Those nominated must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests.
Texas Tech concluded their season 7-11-2 overall and 2-7-1 in conference. The Red Raiders finished the season at No. 9 in the Big 12 Conference.
