
Texas Tech Set to Host Oklahoma Rivals

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's soccer team will return to conference action as they host Oklahoma rivals, the Oklahoma Sooners and No. 12 Oklahoma State Cowgirls. The match against the Sooners is set for Fri., Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. On Sun., Oct. 15, Tech will face Oklahoma State. The match is slated for 1 p.m.
Tech comes off of a shut-out victory on Tuesday. The Red Raiders (6-8-1; 1-4-0) defeated Texas State, 3-0, at R.P. Fuller Stadium. Three freshmen recorded all of the Tech goals. Zhaleh Rezaie and Lauren Martell tallied their first collegiate goal against the Bobcats. Brittney Harrison recorded a goal for the Red Raiders as well. Harrison leads Tech in goals (9), points (19) and shots on goals (24). All three of the Tech goalkeepers saw playing time against the Bobcats. It was the first collegiate appearance for freshman goalkeeper Amy Lovell.
Oklahoma (5-8-1; 2-4-1) will travel to Lubbock for its final road trip of the season. Last weekend the Sooners went 2-0 defeating Big 12 opponents Missouri and Iowa State. Junior midfielder/forward Audri Habibi was named the Big 12's Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday. The Sooners are led by senior Kady Kelly in goals (6), assists (5), points (17), shots (32) and shots on goal (19). Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Nichols has started and played the duration of all 14 matches the Sooners have played this season. Nichols has tallied 68 saves.
No. 12 Oklahoma State improved to 11-2-1 on the season and 6-1 in the Big 12 with a pair of wins over Iowa State and Missouri last weekend. The Cowgirls only conference loss was at No. 8 Texas A&M. The Aggies defeated Oklahoma State, 3-1. Senior forward Jesyca Rosholt leads the Cowgirls in shots (47) and shots on goal (21). Freshman forward Leah Hope has recorded five goals for Oklahoma State, which is the most of any Cowgirl this season.
"We go into these games knowing we have to be at our best," said head coach Neil McGuire. "Each team has vastly differing style of play and we will have to make key adjustments to give ourselves the best chance to win. Our players feel good about being home and are looking forward to the games."
Sunday is Mascot Day and area mascots have been invited to entertain the crowd during pre-game and half time. The mascots will be passing out promotional material when fans enter the stadium. The Red Raiders will hit the road for their last road trip on Oct. 20 as they face Colorado in Boulder, Co., at 7 p.m. On Oct. 22 Tech will travel to Lawrence, Kan., to face Kansas at 1 p.m. The Red Raiders will return to R.P. Fuller Stadium for their last match of the season as they host the Baylor Bears on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
