LUBBOCK, Texas - While marching through one of the best seasons in Texas Tech Football annals, several Red Raider student-athletes made a lasting impression not only in the school's record books, but also on NCAA charts as well. Thirteen individual school records were broken and one tied, while three NCAA marks bit the dust.
All-Big 12 running back Taurean Henderson accounted for five of the school records and all three NCAA marks. During a four-year career in which Henderson established himself as the best multi-dimensional back in school history, he managed to record a reception in every game he played, setting a new NCAA mark of 51 consecutive games with a catch. He also caught 304 passes over the last four seasons which set a new mark for receptions by a running back. The receptions total also ranks third all-time in NCAA history. Henderson set an NCAA mark of 39 games in which he scored a touchdown, breaking the old mark of 37, set by Texas' Cedric Benson during the 2001-04 seasons. Henderson's 50 rushing scores rank among the all-time top 20 in collegiate history.
Included among the five school records Henderson established are three scoring marks: Career Points (414), Career Points per Game (8.1) and Career Touchdowns (69). He also tied the single-season record for touchdowns with 22 (Byron Morris, 1993). Other marks Henderson set include Single-Game Yards per Rush (14.1 vs. Indiana State) and the aforementioned 304 career receptions.
Henderson wasn't alone in this season's record cavalcade. WR Joel Filani's 255 receiving yards against Kansas State set a single-game school and Big 12 record as well as the school's junior class receiving mark, while WR Jarrett Hicks' 28 receiving touchdowns over his first three seasons is a career record.
The leg of PK Alex Trlica propelled him into the books during his sophomore season. Trlica set records in Single-Season Points by a Kicker (99), Career Extra Points Made (115), Career Extra Points Attempted (115), Single-Season PATs without a Miss (60) and Career Consecutive PATs Made (115).
The Red Raiders set four team school records including Most Points in Modern Era - Since 1950 (80 vs. Sam Houston State), Most First Quarter Points (28 vs. Sam Houston State), Most PATs Made (11 vs. Sam Houston State) and Most Passing Yards (669 vs. Kansas State). Tech also tied four other school marks.
