Lubbock, Texas- The Texas Tech cross country team competed at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday. The women's squad finished in 11th place of 32 teams in the 6K race. On the men's side, in the 4K race, the team finished third of 11 teams. In the 8K race, the men finished in 10th place of 13 teams.
Leading the way for the women was Violet Chemakwila who finished in fourth place (of 227 runners) with her time of 21:22. Irene Kimaiyo was right behind her in eighth place with a clocking of 21:46. Rounding out the top three for the women was Jessica Stovall who clocked a time of 23:16, good for 58th-place finish.
In the men's 4K run, Haron Lagat was the top Tech finisher with his time of 12:46, good for a 14th-place finish. Orey Smith finished in 17th place with a time of 12:50. Rounding out the top three was David Boston with a 23rd-place finish and a time of 12:56.
In the men's 8K run, Kevin Chelimo was the top Tech finisher with a fourth-place finish (of 130 runners) and a time of 23:40. Benson Cheserek clocked a time of 24:34, good for a 22nd-place finish. Rounding out the top three was Aaron Greer with a 99th-place finish and a clocking of 26:00.
Tech cross country will compete next at the Chile Pepper Invitational, in Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 15.
