LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech moved up three spots in this week's ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, climbing up three spots to No. 16. The ranking is the highest for the Red Raiders since ranking 16th in the Associated Press poll on Nov. 14, 1977.
The Red Raiders are 2-0 on the season and began the campaign ranked 21st in both the coaches and AP polls. Tech remained at No. 19 in this week's AP poll.
Coming off of a 10-2 year with wins against Texas A&M and Texas in 1976, the Red Raiders entered the 1977 season with a preseason ranking of eighth nationally, and held the No. 16 slot in mid-November. No Tech team had been ranked higher since.
Tech continues its season Saturday when the Red Raiders host Indiana State in the final non-conference game of the season. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT at Jones SBC Stadium. Tech opens Big 12 Conference play Sat., Oct. 1, against Kansas.
