
Williams Concludes World Championships

Lubbock, Texas- Texas Tech soon-to-be-senior sprinter Andrae Williams ran in the opening round of the 400M at the World Championships today in Helsinki, Finland. Williams fell short of qualifying for the semi-final round.
Williams clocked a time of 46.49 as he finished fifth in his heat. The Bahamas native narrowly missed securing a top three spot to move on to the next round.
Williams won the 400M dash at the Bahamas National meet in June, guaranteeing him a trip to the World Championships. Fresh off his junior campaign, he ran the fastest qualifying time in the prelims at 46.33.
Williams was a 2005 Outdoor All-American in the 400M with a clocking of 44.90, his first below the 45-second mark, and earned a third-place finish. He also earned All-America honors as a member of the indoor and outdoor 4x400M relays in addition to being crowned the 2005 Big 12 Indoor Champion in the 600Y in February.
Williams was also a member of the Bahamas 4x400M relay team that finished sixth at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
