
Day One Concludes at NCAA Track

Sacramento, Calif. - The Red Raiders have completed day one of competition of the NCAA Championships in rainy Sacramento, Calif.
Texas Tech will advance two runners to the finals of the 400M as Andrae Williams and Michael Mathieu clocked times of 45.41 and 46.24, respectively. Williams finished first overall in the preliminaries. The semifinals of the event will take place on Friday.
Jonathan Johnson ran a 1:48.13 in the opening round of the 800M and will run in the semifinal round on Thursday.
Althea Chambers finished ninth overall in the prelims of the 800M with a time of 2:05.59, good enough to qualify her to the semifinals on Thursday.
In the women's 400M, Big 12 Champion Shereefa Lloyd clocked a 52.74 and finished fourth overall in the prelims. The semifinal of the event will be run on Friday.
In the 110M hurdles, Marlon Odom finished ninth overall in the prelims with a clocking of 13.84. In the semifinals, he clocked a time of 13.83 and will run in the finals of the event on Friday.
Tori Polk marked a leap of 20'-4.5" in the long and finished eight overall in the qualifying round. Polk will move on to compete in the finals of the event on Thursday.
Seth Harris qualified for the finals of the pole vault with a clearance of 16'-10.75. He will compete in the finals of the event on Friday.
In the 5000M, Kevin Chelimo clocked a 13:58.31 and will compete in the finals of the event on Saturday.
The women's 4x100M relay of Melissa Branch, Shereefa Lloyd, Louise Cox and JaToya Moore set a new school record, clocking a time of 44.77 in the first round of the event. The squad replaced the previous record of 44.97 that they set at the NCAA Regional meet last month. The time, however, was not good enough to qualify the squad for the semifinal round.
The men's 4x100M relay of Terry Beard, Chris Adams, Matt Stewart and Earvin Parker clocked a time of 40.50 but missed qualifying for the next round.
Tyree Gailes ran a 10.51 in the first round of the 100M but fell short of making it to the next round. Gailes will be competing in the opening round of the 200M on Thursday.
