
Track and Field Set for USA Championships

Lubbock, Texas- Selected members of the Texas Tech track and field team will be competing in the USA track and field championships in Carson, Calif., this weekend. The meet will take place at the Home Depot Center. The top three finishers in each event will be eligible to compete in the World Championships later this summer.
Traveling this weekend and representing Tech will be Bryan Scott (400M hurdles), Marlon Odom (110M hurdles), Lacy Wilson (high jump) and Tori Polk (long jump). Jonathan Johnson and Licretia Sibley, who just wrapped up their Red Raider careers, will be competing unattached in the 800M and the 400M, respectively.
Highlights from the 2005 season for Scott include capturing his second-consecutive Big 12 title in the 400M hurdles. Scott's title-winning time of 49.86 is the second-best time in school history in the event. Scott, a native of Lubbock, was also crowned the Midwest Regional Champion in Norman, Okla. Scott will compete in the opening round of the 400M hurdles on Fri., June 24, at 6:10 p.m.
Odom was also crowned a Big 12 Champion in Manhattan, Kan., as he took the title in the 110M hurdles. Odom also won the Midwest Regional title en route to setting a new school record of 13.69. Odom placed sixth at the National meet to earn the first All-America honor of his career. He will run in the opening round of the event Thurs., June 23, at 7:55 p.m.
Wilson was the 2005 Indoor Big 12 Champion in the high jump back in February. Wilson earned first-place finishes in the event at the Texas Relays and at the Midwest Regional Championships. She also set a new school record in the event in April, clearing a height of 6'-0.75". The Shamrock, Texas native will take part in the final round of the event Thurs., June 23, at 9:15 p.m.
Polk earned the third All-America honor of her career in Sacramento two weeks ago as she finished sixth in the long jump. Polk also set a new school record in the event with a leap of 20'-9.25" in April. Polk now holds the top five best marks in school history in the event. Polk will jump Fri., June 24, at 7:10 p.m.
Sibley ended her Tech career with four All-America honors, two Big 12 titles and 14 all-conference honors. The Fort Worth native was the 2005 Indoor Big 12 Champion in the 400M and a member of the title-winning distance medley relay in 2002. Sibley anchored the 4x400M relay to three top eight finishes at the National meet. Sibley will run in the opening round of the 400M, Thurs., June 23, at 6 p.m.
Johnson concluded his Red Raider career with nine All-America honors, four consecutive Big 12 titles and 16 all-conference honors. Johnson is Tech's first male track and field national champion and he was a semifinalist in the 800M at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens as Tech's first male Olympian.
