The Texas Tech men's basketball program has signed three players to National Letters of Intent. The new Red Raiders hail from New York (1) and Texas (2).
Charles Burgess, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound guard from Howard College in Big Spring, Texas will enter Texas Tech next season with two years of eligibility remaining. Burgess, who was born in Harlem, led Howard to a 25-5 record last season while averaging 18.9 points per game and leading the team in assists. He was selected to the All-Region Team and earned All-Conference honors in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference.
The second signee, Michael Godwin, a 6-foot-9, 210 pound forward from Rowlett, Texas, plays for the Rockwall Yellow Jackets. As a junior, Michael averaged 7.7 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game, and 3.7 assists per game on a defensive-minded team. Last season, the Yellow Jackets were 18-13 and scored fewer than 50 points in 17 of 31 games. This season, head coach Lynn Nabi expects more production from the offense.

Ashford, a 6-foot-4, 190 pound forward averaged 16.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game enroute to earning All Region honors, First Team All District, and Newcomer of the Year in District 17 - 5A.
Texas Tech, 22-11 for the 2004-2005 season, completed their fourth consecutive twenty-win season, a first in school history. The Red Raiders were fourth in conference play, were second in the conference tournament, and then downed UCLA and Gonzaga in the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Tournament in Tucson, Arizona. The Raiders lost to WV in the "Sweet Sixteen" 65-60 at The Pit in Albuquerque.
