LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore kicker Alex Trlica (Friendswood, Texas) was named one of three Lou Groza Award Stars of the Week by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. Oregon State's Alexis Serna and Virginia's Connor Hughes also were recognized.
Trlica kicked two field goals in the second quarter of 41 and 39 yards. The 41-yard field goal was a career-long for Trlica until his 46-yard kick in the fourth quarter. Additionally, he was successful on all three extra point attempts.
Second in the Big 12 Conference in scoring at 10.8 points per game, Trlica's three field goals are the most for Tech in a game since Robert Treece's three field goals against Nebraska in 2001. Trlica ranks sixth on the Tech career extra points made list with 86 and trails Jon Davis' (1991-94) all-time record (103) by 17.
Trlica and the Red Raiders (4-0, 1-0) continue their season this weekend with a 3 p.m. CT kickoff at the University of Nebraska. The game will be televised nationally on TBS.
